Mumbai, June 12: A statement made by Sejal Pawar, a third-year MBBS student at the prestigious KEM Hospital, during comedian Praneet More’s show has sparked significant controversy on social media. The situation escalated to the point where the hospital administration felt compelled to initiate an investigation and form a special committee to review the matter.
The controversy began during a live show featuring Praneet More, where he engaged with the audience, including Sejal Pawar. During their discussion about medical studies and anatomy, Pawar allegedly made remarks that have since caused an uproar. She is accused of joking about the body parts of donated cadavers used in medical education.
In a viral video, Sejal Pawar can be heard stating that she and some of her peers would look at and mock the private parts of male cadavers donated for medical research and dissection.
Following the video’s circulation, KEM Hospital’s administration took swift action. Dean Harish Pathak stated, “We are taking appropriate action regarding the controversy surrounding Sejal Pawar’s remarks during the stand-up show. We have formed a two-member special committee, which includes Dr. Anita Chhalak, the warden of the undergraduate hostel and head of the biochemistry department, and Dr. Shraddha More, an assistant professor in the medicine department and social media management. This committee will review the video.”
He further emphasized, “There is always a sense of respect regarding cadavers in the medical profession, and students are sworn to uphold this respect. Such comments undermine the dignity of the medical profession.”
Currently, Sejal Pawar has not been suspended from the hospital, but the administration has indicated that leniency will not be exercised in this matter. They stated that any disciplinary action against the student will await the investigation report to ensure a clear understanding of the situation.
