Vidisha, August 20: A controversy has emerged regarding the alleged theft of railings installed by the tourism department at the Ganesh Temple in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. Questions have been raised about police actions in this matter.
Priyank Kanungo, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, accused the police of negligence after claiming that the railings were stolen. However, police investigations indicated that the railings were still in place at the temple.
On Thursday, Kanungo criticized the police’s handling of the case. He shared a photo of the railings on social media, asserting that they were intact.
In a post on the social media platform X, he questioned Vidisha’s CSP Atul Kumar Singh, asking if he had contacted the Madhya Pradesh tourism department, which funded the railings with public money. He urged Singh to step out of his air-conditioned office and engage in real work, emphasizing the need to investigate who constructed the property and how taxpayer money was spent.
Kanungo stated that public funds are earned through the hard work of ordinary citizens and that accountability is essential, rather than excuses.
The video shared by Kanungo featured CSP Singh stating that he received a complaint about the alleged theft of the railings through the Superintendent of Police. Singh mentioned that upon investigation, including statements from the temple priest and others, it was confirmed that the railings were indeed still in place. This investigation took place on July 30, and a report was subsequently submitted.
