Construction of Babri Mosque Begins in West Bengal

Kolkata, February 11: The construction of the Babri Mosque has commenced in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district of West Bengal, specifically in Beldanga. This initiative is led by Humayun Kabir, the president of the Janata Unnayan Party and a local legislator.

According to a close associate of Kabir, the program is set to start on Wednesday between 12 PM and 1 PM. Following this, a rally for the Babri Mosque will kick off on Thursday, beginning from Palashi in Nadia district with a convoy of 100 vehicles. Each vehicle will carry six individuals, including the driver, totaling around 600 participants in the rally.

The rally will cover a distance of 265 kilometers from Palashi in North Dinajpur district to Itahar. Kabir emphasized the need for this rally, stating that misinformation regarding the mosque’s construction was being spread by various self-serving elements in Beldanga. The aim of the rally is to inform the public about the mosque’s construction.

In an interview with a news agency, Humayun Kabir stated, “The construction will be completed within three years. The estimated cost for this structure is around 55 crore rupees. The height of the mosque’s entrance will be 14 meters, and its width will be 5 meters. The cost of constructing just the entrance is estimated to be around 5 crore rupees.”

He further noted that the foundation for the mosque was laid on December 6 of last year. The Beldanga mosque is inspired by the original mosque located in Ayodhya, which was demolished on December 6, 1992.

Kabir addressed the protesters, saying, “I urge those who oppose this to step aside. People are free to practice their religion and build temples, churches, or whatever they wish; I will not oppose anyone in the name of Islam. This is not about imposing anything.”

Recently, Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress just days before the groundbreaking ceremony. In the meantime, he has formed his political party, the Janata Unnayan Party, and has called for an alliance of all anti-BJP and anti-Trinamool Congress factions ahead of the state assembly elections later this year. However, progress in his coalition talks has been limited, except for an agreement with the AIMIM founded by Asaduddin Owaisi.
