Congress Unveils Candidates for West Bengal Elections, Adhir Ranjan to Contest from Baharampur

New Delhi, March 29: The Congress party has announced a list of 284 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, out of a total of 294 seats. The names for ten seats are yet to be revealed.

Among the candidates is former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who will contest from the Baharampur constituency. Additionally, Mausam Noor will run from Malatipur.

Pradeep Prasad has been nominated from Bhawanipur, a seat previously won by Mamata Banerjee. Ali Imran Ramz, also known as Victor, will represent the party from Chakulia in North Dinajpur.

Rohan Mitra, son of the late Congress leader Somen Mitra, is set to contest from Ballygunge. The party has also placed its trust in the young face Sheikh Zariyatul Hussain for the Nandigram seat.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress plans to ally with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), but this time, it will contest the West Bengal Assembly elections independently. A fierce competition is expected between the BJP and TMC.

West Bengal has 294 Assembly seats, with voting scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.

Earlier, Gulam Ahmed Mir, the Congress in-charge for West Bengal, stated that the party intends to field candidates in every constituency. He emphasized that the party would not hesitate to challenge Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur.

Mir mentioned that every candidate contesting from Bhawanipur will be regarded as a significant leader. The party aims to contest all 294 seats without leaving any vacant.

On Friday, a meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) was held in New Delhi, where senior leaders discussed candidate selection in detail. The meeting included Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, and several leaders from West Bengal.

Now, Congress has officially announced candidates for 284 out of the 294 Assembly seats.
