Murshidabad, March 29: The political atmosphere in West Bengal is heating up as the assembly elections approach. BJP leader Gaurishankar Ghosh has countered Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent statements, asserting that the BJP is not in Bengal to exploit but to foster development. He emphasized that their goal is not merely to gain power but to bring progress to the state.
Banerjee has accused the BJP of coming to Bengal with intentions of looting, claiming they have no interest in the state’s development. In response, Ghosh accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of plundering Bengal over the past 15 years, stating that the state has deteriorated under their governance.
He pointed out that despite the central government’s support, TMC leaders have misused resources intended for the state’s benefit. Ghosh reiterated that the BJP aims to transform Bengal into a “Sonar Bangla” as part of a broader vision for a strong India.
Ghosh suggested that Banerjee feels her political ground is slipping, leading her to mislead the public with false statements. He expressed confidence that the people of Bengal are wise enough not to fall for her misleading claims.
In a counterattack, Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to harm her during the 2021 assembly elections, alleging that they intentionally injured her foot. Despite this, she campaigned from a wheelchair. She described these actions as not just character assassination but a conspiracy to endanger her life, reminding that “if Krishna protects, who can harm?”
It is important to note that the West Bengal assembly elections will be contested across 294 seats. According to the Election Commission, voting will occur in two phases, with results expected to be announced on May 4.
