Mumbai, June 23: In the wake of a tragic fire incident at a coaching center in Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to initiate a significant campaign focusing on the safety and legality of coaching institutions across the state. Authorities have directed all district magistrates to identify illegal coaching centers and take action against them. Additionally, registered institutions will undergo a special audit concerning fire safety, building integrity, and electrical systems.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay emphasized that there will be no compromise on student safety and the quality of education at any level. The Uttar Pradesh government has committed to a comprehensive inspection and verification campaign targeting coaching centers statewide.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, strict actions will be taken against illegally operated coaching institutions, while registered centers will also be subject to rigorous safety audits.
Minister Upadhyay stated on Tuesday that the state government is dedicated to providing students with a safe, transparent, and high-quality educational environment. To achieve this, all district magistrates have been instructed to conduct extensive surveys of coaching institutions in their respective districts.
He noted that institutions operating without registration under the Uttar Pradesh Coaching Regulation Act of 2002 will not be spared under any circumstances. Identifying such institutions will ensure strict compliance with regulations. Furthermore, registered coaching centers will also be assessed for adherence to safety standards.
During inspections, a thorough review of structural safety, availability of fire safety equipment, electrical systems, emergency exits, basic facilities in accordance with student capacity, and other safety standards will be conducted. Any negligence or irregularities found will result in action against the responsible institutions.
Yogendra Upadhyay reiterated that the Yogi government is continually working towards ensuring discipline, transparency, and accountability in the education system. The welfare of students and parents is paramount, and the government will ensure that every coaching institution in the state fully complies with established standards.
He added that in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, a safe, organized, and reliable educational environment is being created for youth preparing for competitive exams. The government’s priority is to provide every student with quality education in a secure learning atmosphere.
In this regard, a letter has been issued by Special Secretary of Higher Education Nidhi Srivastava to all district magistrates. The letter outlines the need to identify unregistered institutions and ensure actions are taken under the provisions of the Act, alongside regular inspections of registered coaching centers to assess student safety, basic facilities, and administrative arrangements.
