New Delhi, May 21: Congress MP Tariq Anwar expressed his satisfaction on Thursday regarding the reported killing of Hamza Burhan, one of the key conspirators behind last year’s Pulwama terrorist attack. The incident occurred in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), specifically in Muzaffarabad, where Burhan was reportedly shot multiple times by unknown assailants.
Speaking to reporters, Anwar stated, “Terrorism must be eradicated. This is good news for us, as terrorists are being killed in Pakistan, which serves as a safe haven for terrorism.”
In 2022, the Indian government designated Burhan as a terrorist, stating, “Arjumand Gulzar Dar, alias Hamza Burhan, alias Doctor, aged 23, is a resident of Khurbatpora, Ratnipora, Pulwama, and is an associate member of Al-Badr, which is designated as a terrorist organization under UAPA.”
Additionally, Anwar defended comments made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He remarked, “Rahul Gandhi has presented the truth. A traitor is someone who does not work for the welfare of the country.”
He reiterated Gandhi’s stance, saying, “On one hand, they (Prime Minister Modi) are urging citizens not to travel abroad and to save gold, while on the other hand, they themselves are touring various countries. Clearly, this will raise objections among the people.”
Anwar also addressed questions regarding the viral “Cockroach People’s Party” (CJP) on social media, which has been banned in India. He noted that it reflects the widespread discontent among the youth regarding unemployment and inflation. The CJP points to the “deteriorating environment” in the country as a result of the BJP-led government’s “wrong policies.”
Furthermore, Congress MP Tariq Anwar supported the West Bengal government’s decision to allocate land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing border areas. The process to hand over land for fencing along the unfenced borders with neighboring Bangladesh began on Wednesday. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari informed reporters at the state secretariat that approximately 27 kilometers of land has officially been transferred to the BSF.
