Mumbai, June 25: Senior Congress leader Hussein Dalwai has responded to the inclusion of chapters related to the Emergency in the new NCERT textbooks. He accused the government of indoctrinating students through Hindutva ideology.
Dalwai stated that while he does not support the Emergency, presenting history from a one-sided perspective is also inappropriate. He remarked, “I do not endorse the Emergency, but students are being prepared through Hindutva, which will lead to the destruction of this country. An environment similar to that of Pakistan and Bangladesh is being created, which is completely wrong. This country had a culture and an identity that was respected worldwide. Now, all of that is being systematically erased.”
During the discussion, Dalwai also expressed his displeasure over allegations of misconduct against MP Sanjay Dina Patil involving journalists. He emphasized that public representatives should demonstrate restraint and responsibility in their conduct. MPs are representatives of the public and must treat all citizens, including journalists, with respect. If any representative uses derogatory language, it should be condemned, and democratic values must be upheld.
Dalwai also addressed the issue of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs who have taken a different political stance. He criticized the ruling party, stating, “There is no connection between the law and the BJP. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister’s words are what the Speaker will follow. This is fundamentally wrong and should not be accepted.”
Regarding allegations against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his family related to land purchases, Dalwai called for a fair and transparent investigation. He noted, “This should be investigated properly. When anyone in Congress did something even slightly wrong, they were expelled from the party. Ashok Chavan was the CM and had to resign over a flat he purchased.”
He added, “They knew in advance where projects would be coming, which is why they attempted to buy land early to make money. In such cases, they should resign. If BJP members have any shame, they will remove them. Additionally, Dharmendra Pradhan should also be dismissed. It is utterly wrong to govern with individuals who cannot manage administration.”
