New Delhi, August 14: Congress leaders have come to the defense of Rahul Gandhi following his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s behavior during foreign trips. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments were clarified by Congress MPs Pramod Tiwari and Sukdev Bhagat, who stated that his remarks were not aimed at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni but were directed at Modi’s conduct during his international visits.
Congress leader Udit Raj also questioned the Prime Minister’s approach when meeting foreign representatives.
Pramod Tiwari spoke to a news agency, emphasizing that Rahul Gandhi merely raised the question of whether people had forgotten “Operation Sindoor.” He pointed out that Gandhi was highlighting a time when India did not receive the expected international support.
Tiwari asserted that Rahul Gandhi’s comments were about Modi’s behavior and interactions with other leaders during his foreign travels. He stressed that it was incorrect to associate these remarks with any specific foreign leader.
Tiwari also raised serious concerns regarding the absence of the Prime Minister and Home Minister in Parliament. He accused them of disrespecting the national anthem, stating that it was unprecedented for the leaders to be absent during “Jana Gana Mana” or “Vande Mataram.”
He remarked that no Prime Minister or Home Minister had ever disrespected the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in such a manner. Citing Article 75 of the Constitution, Tiwari emphasized that the government is accountable to Parliament. He questioned the necessity of their presence when ministers had bills listed and questions were to be asked.
Tiwari declared that the opposition would not silently witness the disrespect towards the Constitution, Parliament, and “Bharat Mata.” He also demanded accountability from the government regarding actions taken against students, stating that the opposition would continue to seek answers in cases of police action, including the use of batons, pellet guns, or live ammunition against students.
Sukdev Bhagat also defended Rahul Gandhi’s statements, clarifying that they were not directed at Giorgia Meloni. According to Bhagat, Gandhi was discussing Modi’s behavior and gestures during his foreign trips.
He noted that Rahul Gandhi’s comments are often linked to the Gandhi family or specific leaders, but in this case, the context was different.
Udit Raj remarked that when PM Modi meets foreign representatives, he tends to embrace them without any clear purpose. He stressed that the manner of meeting foreign representatives should reflect the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office and the nation.
He referenced “Operation Sindoor,” highlighting that many countries did not stand with India during that time, while some appeared to support Pakistan. Raj accused the government of not raising sufficient questions on this issue.
He reiterated Rahul Gandhi’s claim that no leader or official in the BJP has the courage to give Prime Minister Modi the right advice. Raj stated that Gandhi believes it is essential to present the truth to the Prime Minister, but that is not happening.
