Guwahati, August 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to the victims of the 1947 partition on Friday. On the occasion of Partition Remembrance Day, he emphasized that the nation must never forget the pain and loss caused by the division.
Through a social media post, Sarma stated, “We will never forget the wounds inflicted on Mother India by the forced partition imposed by the Muslim League, which claimed countless innocent lives.”
He noted that Partition Remembrance Day serves as an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives during one of the most tragic events in the history of the Indian subcontinent. The nation should honor all those who sacrificed their lives and ensure that the suffering and sacrifices of countless individuals are never forgotten.
Sarma also shared an image highlighting that the scars of partition remain alive today. The 1947 partition led to the largest mass displacement in modern history. Amid communal violence, millions were displaced, families were torn apart, and communities on both sides of the newly drawn borders endured immense suffering.
The Chief Minister urged people to remember the victims and remain committed to safeguarding the nation’s unity and security against divisive forces. He remarked that the purpose of observing this day in recent years is to shed light on the hardships faced by ordinary people, including those forced to leave their ancestral homes to start anew elsewhere.
In his message, Sarma made a broader appeal for national unity and vigilance, stating that we must learn from the past as we move forward.
