Washington, August 14: The Trump administration announced that for the fifteenth consecutive month, there have been no releases of migrants illegally entering the United States at the southern border. This follows strict security measures and a historic decline in border crossings.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that in July, Border Patrol agents apprehended 9,295 individuals at the southwestern border, a 6% decrease from June.
Nationwide, the number of individuals apprehended by Border Patrol fell by 1% compared to the previous month, totaling 11,298.
DHS Secretary Markven Mulins stated, “The results this month are clear. President Trump’s border security agenda is restoring order and prioritizing the safety of the American people.”
He emphasized that DHS is focused on enforcing immigration laws, securing the border, and ensuring that individuals who enter the country illegally are promptly returned.
The Trump administration noted that the number of apprehensions at the southwestern border in July was 94% lower than the monthly average recorded during the Biden administration. This figure is also 96% lower than the peak levels seen in December 2023 and less than the numbers recorded in the first six days of July 2024.
According to the statement, the total number of apprehensions at the southwestern border for the current fiscal year until July is lower than the average for any single month from fiscal years 1992 to 2024.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney S. Scott commented, “Clear policies, strict actions, and dedicated frontline personnel are yielding positive results at our borders.”
Scott added, “With the support of President Trump and Secretary Mulins, CBP is keeping our country safe from illegal crossers, dangerous individuals, and illicit drugs while continuing to facilitate legitimate trade and travel. These results show what can be achieved when border security is prioritized nationally.”
CBP also reported an increase in drug seizures. In July, the total weight of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana seized was 26% higher compared to July 2024.
By July, the agency had seized 54% more drugs compared to the same period in fiscal year 2024. Fentanyl seizures increased by 3% from June, reaching 1,054 pounds, while heroin seizures rose by 20% to 79 pounds.
In July, CBP processed $342 billion in imports and assessed $23 billion in duties. The agency also intercepted 300 shipments valued at over $83 million due to suspected violations of forced labor regulations.
Additionally, CBP reported seizing over $2 billion worth of counterfeit goods. Agricultural experts issued 6,554 emergency notifications related to prohibited or restricted plant and animal products. They inspected 114,147 travelers and recorded 704 civil penalties or violations for bringing restricted agricultural items without declaration.
