Cold Wave Hits Chhattisgarh, Snowfall in Northern Hills

Raipur, 8 December (Daily Kiran) – Chhattisgarh is experiencing a severe cold wave since the second week of December. Several districts in the state are facing chilly conditions. Due to an active western disturbance, heavy snowfall has occurred in the northern hilly areas. The cold winds have intensified the chill across Chhattisgarh, causing a significant drop in day and night temperatures, making people shiver.

Meteorologists have noted that the temperatures in areas around Manna Airport in the capital city Raipur are as cold as in Ambikapur district. The minimum temperatures in both cities have fallen 5 to 6 degrees below normal.

The weather department has issued a cold wave alert for Raipur and about a dozen other districts on Monday and Tuesday. The state has seen a continuous fall in temperatures over the past three to four days, with severe cold especially in border districts. Ambikapur’s temperature has dropped to 5.2 degrees Celsius, which is 4.6 degrees below the usual level. Similarly, Manna Airport and Nava Raipur have been experiencing cold wave conditions for the last three days, with night temperatures recorded at 8 degrees Celsius, 5.7 degrees lower than normal.

The weather office has issued cold wave warnings for Raipur, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Sarguja, Jashpur, Surajpur, Balrampur, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Rajnandgaon, Bemetara, Durg, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Balod, and Korba districts for the next two days.
