New Delhi, August 11: In Palamu district of Jharkhand, approximately 11 to 12 cars of a freight train derailed on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred on the East-Central Railway section between Barkakana and Son Nagar, near the village of Sabwana, between Garhwa Road and Sigsigy railway stations. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or casualties.
According to sources, the coal-laden freight train was en route from Barkakana to Son Nagar. After crossing Garhwa Road station, the train was moving on a reversible line, also known as the third line. During this time, around 11 to 12 of its 59 cars suddenly derailed near the Grasim Industries factory, causing a chaotic scene at the site.
However, since the train was only carrying coal and had no passengers onboard, a major disaster was averted. Railway officials stated that the third line where the incident occurred did not affect the main up and down lines, allowing train operations on both main lines to continue. Nevertheless, as a precaution, some trains may experience delays in speed and scheduling.
Senior officials from the Dhanbad railway division arrived at the scene promptly after the incident was reported. Engineering, technical, and safety teams have also been dispatched to the site. The railway has initiated the removal of the derailed cars using cranes and other modern equipment. Repair work on the damaged track is underway under the supervision of railway officials.
An investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the derailment. It remains unclear at this stage why the freight train’s cars left the tracks. The railway administration is working diligently to restore the affected third line as quickly as possible. For now, the safety of the main rail lines ensures that passenger train operations continue on this vital rail segment.
