Devotion Beyond Pain: Subodhs Unique Journey to Baba Baidyanath

Munger, August 11: Devotees take various paths to reach the shrine of Baba Baidyanath. Some walk with Kanwars, while others perform Dandavat Yatra. However, Subodh Kumar Singh from Lakhisarai is on a remarkable journey that embodies faith, determination, and resilience. He has committed to reaching Baba Baidyanath’s shrine on his knees.

Subodh is currently covering a distance of one to one and a half kilometers each day. He has already traveled 18 kilometers, during which the skin on both his knees has worn away, resulting in deep wounds and increasing pain. Yet, his desire to reach the shrine remains unshaken.

On July 28, Subodh Kumar Singh began his pilgrimage from SultanGanj, carrying holy Ganga water with his son and a friend. Notably, he chose to crawl on his knees instead of walking. For him, this journey is not merely about fulfilling a wish; it is a unique form of devotion dedicated to Baba Baidyanath.

Subodh shares, “Previously, I have completed nine Dandavat Yatras with my guru. I began this journey in 2009 with Shri Shri 108 Dayaram Das Ji Maharaj. Although there were years when I could not undertake the journey, I have completed it about nine times. This time, I felt inspired to do something different and decided to crawl to Baba Baidyanath.”

His family was initially opposed to his decision. They expressed their concerns, but Subodh remained resolute. He set out with his son and friend, covering five to six kilometers in the first two days. However, the continuous crawling caused severe abrasions on his knees, leading to deeper wounds and intensifying pain. Nevertheless, Subodh refused to halt his journey.

He admits he is unsure how long it will take to reach Baba Baidyanath’s shrine. Under normal circumstances, covering 15 kilometers can take just a few hours, but crawling makes every step a test of endurance. Still, he is determined to reach his destination, stating that the journey will continue until he arrives at Baba’s feet.

Subodh refers to this endeavor as ‘Hatha Yoga.’ He emphasizes that there is no specific wish behind it. He believes that Lord Mahadev is all-knowing and that nothing is hidden from Him. Just as thoughts of performing religious acts arise, the idea of crawling to Baba’s shrine came to him this time.

Subodh is confident that, as in his previous Dandavat Yatras, Baba will guide him on this path as well. Despite the deep wounds on his knees, his face radiates faith, and his eyes reflect a strong resolve to reach his goal. For him, this journey symbolizes the power of faith that inspires individuals to persevere through pain and challenges.
