CM Omar Abdullah to Restructure Cabinet Ahead of Protests in New Delhi

New Delhi, July 1: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Wednesday that he will expand and restructure his cabinet before the proposed protests at Jantar Mantar, demanding the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to the media, Abdullah highlighted that two significant political events are set to unfold in the coming days in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the National Conference is finalizing its strategy for the upcoming protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister confirmed that the cabinet expansion and reshuffle will be completed prior to the protests. He mentioned that a crucial meeting will take place at the residence of party president Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar, involving senior party leaders. This meeting aims to finalize the party’s strategy for the Jantar Mantar protest and determine which leaders will represent the party on the first day of the Parliament’s monsoon session.

Regarding the cabinet expansion and reshuffle, Omar stated that this process will be completed before the protests in New Delhi. He explained that this decision follows a recent meeting in Dachigam, where it became evident that an expansion and reshuffle were necessary to enhance the government’s functioning. This will mark the first significant reshuffle since Omar Abdullah’s government took office.

The Chief Minister has faced pressure regarding the availability of some ministers to legislators. During the Dachigam meeting on June 3, several NC legislators expressed strong concerns that some ministers were neglecting public issues raised by the legislators, which has widened the gap between the ruling party and the public.
