Srinagar, June 3: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Dachigam National Park on Wednesday, accompanied by ministers and legislators from the National Conference. The purpose of the visit was to conduct a review meeting regarding the government’s performance over the past 19 months.
Abdullah shared on his Facebook account, “We are going for an off-site meeting to review the last 19 months. We will discuss all aspects, the good, the bad, and everything in between.”
He also addressed media reports claiming that the meeting’s location was changed at the last minute. In another Facebook post, he clarified, “I regret to disappoint you, but the meeting was not changed at the last moment. It has always been my intention to hold this meeting off-site, and all arrangements were made days in advance at the location I selected.”
Five independent legislators supporting the National Conference were invited to the meeting, while the Congress party, which has six supporting legislators, was not included. Abdullah has kept one cabinet position vacant for the Congress, allowing them to nominate a member for the ministerial role whenever they choose.
The Congress party has made it clear that it will not participate in the union territory government until Jammu and Kashmir is granted statehood again.
According to sources within the National Conference, lunch arrangements for the legislators had already been made at Dachigam National Park. The park features a rest house surrounded by expansive lawns, which has restricted access. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi frequently stayed at the Dachigam rest house during her visits to Kashmir.
