Clean India is Possible Only Through Clean States: Tripura Chief Minister

Agartala, June 22: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Monday that environmental protection cannot be ensured without scientifically managing waste disposal. He warned that waste cannot be discarded arbitrarily, and violators may face fines or legal action under existing laws.

The Chief Minister stated that the vision of a Clean India can only be realized if every state remains clean. He urged all sections of society to collectively work towards building a beautiful, healthy, and clean Tripura.

Saha made these remarks while addressing a state-wide workshop on waste management held at the Rabindra Shatabdi Bhavan in Agartala. He highlighted that the Constitution and laws guarantee the right to life, which includes the right to live in a clean and healthy environment. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has supported the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and emphasized the scientific management of a clean environment and sanitation.

He pointed out that litter, clogged drains, and environmental pollution pose serious threats to public health. He stressed that public support is essential for success and called for cooperation from all segments of society.

The Chief Minister insisted that families, institutions, and citizens must be involved in proper waste management, transforming it into a mass movement. He also urged municipal representatives to raise awareness in their respective areas.

Saha reiterated that responsible waste disposal is crucial for environmental protection and warned that district magistrates will monitor this issue. He mentioned that they have the authority to impose fines or take legal action, including cutting off electricity and water connections for violators.

He reminded municipal representatives that they serve as a vital link between the government and the public, making it their significant responsibility to promote cleanliness and proper waste management.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is committed to creating a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. He stressed that a Clean India is only possible if each state is clean, adding that Tripura is working towards achieving clean cities and municipalities.
