Clash Erupts Between Two Groups Celebrating Holi in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal

Kolkata, March 4: A clash broke out on Wednesday between two groups celebrating Holi in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal, resulting in several injuries, according to police reports.

The incident occurred in Ward 12 of the Dhupguri municipality, where a dispute escalated during the festivities. Tensions rose as members from both groups began attacking each other with bamboo sticks and iron rods. The situation became increasingly volatile, prompting a significant police presence at the scene. Officer-in-Charge Utpal Saha led the police response to restore order.

Initial reports indicate that the two groups were playing with colored water when a disagreement arose. It was alleged that one group’s members reprimanded a young man from the other group regarding his girlfriend, which sparked the conflict.

What began as a minor argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Police arrived promptly, and local intervention helped to bring the situation under control. As of now, no arrests have been made, but authorities are maintaining a close watch on the area to prevent any further incidents throughout the day.

Meanwhile, in Kolkata, central paramilitary forces have begun conducting route marches on Holi. These forces were seen patrolling areas around Sealdah and Bowbazar in central Kolkata. Marches have also been organized in several neighborhoods under the Muchipara police jurisdiction. Over the past few days, similar patrols have been implemented in various police districts across South Kolkata, with increased vigilance starting today in Girish Park and Muchipara.
