CISF Seizes Suspected Drugs at Imphal Airport

Imphal, June 24: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully intercepted 420 grams of suspected narcotics at Imphal Airport during a random X-ray baggage inspection system (XBIS) screening.

Demonstrating exceptional vigilance, CISF personnel stopped a passenger whose luggage was being screened for a flight to Delhi. Upon thorough inspection, they discovered a packet containing approximately 420 grams of suspected cannabis.

In accordance with regulations, the luggage was opened in the presence of CISF staff, airport police, and AAI officials. The passenger, along with the suspected narcotics, was handed over to the Singjamei police for further legal action.

CISF remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring safe civil aviation by implementing robust screening processes and maintaining vigilance against illegal activities.

In a related incident, a similar operation took place on Wednesday at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where customs officials seized hydroponic cannabis valued at ₹2.05 crore. A 28-year-old man was arrested for smuggling drugs from Bangkok into India.

According to Mumbai Customs, the arrested individual has been identified as A.D. Rajani, a resident of Jamnagar, Gujarat. Authorities suspected he was carrying prohibited items, leading to his detention and a thorough search of his luggage.

During the search, officials found 14 packets in his trolley bag. Upon opening these packets, they discovered plant flowers and upper parts suspected to be hydroponic cannabis. This suspicion was later confirmed.

Customs officials seized a total of 5,869 grams of hydroponic cannabis, with an estimated illegal market value of around ₹2.05 crore. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether there is a larger network involved in this smuggling operation.
