Guwahati, August 31: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that police conducted simultaneous operations against cattle smugglers at three locations. This crackdown resulted in the seizure of 22 vehicles, the rescue of 298 cattle, and the arrest of 33 individuals.
The Chief Minister issued a stern warning to smugglers via a post on the social media platform X, stating, “Listen up, cattle smugglers, there is no place for cattle smuggling on Assam’s soil.”
Sarma emphasized that these coordinated operations clearly demonstrate the state government’s commitment to combat cattle smuggling and that strict action will be taken against those involved.
The police seized 22 vehicles used in the smuggling operations, rescued 298 cattle, and arrested 33 suspects. CM Sarma praised the Assam Police for their efforts, stating that this action sends a clear message that cattle smuggling will not be tolerated in the state.
He noted that this initiative is part of the government’s pledge to ensure the safety of cattle. The state government is consistently taking measures to rescue cattle and prevent illegal smuggling.
Assam shares international and interstate borders with several states and countries, facilitating the movement of cattle. Therefore, the government considers monitoring strategic locations and conducting thorough inspections essential.
