Chinese Navy Hospital Ship Returns Home After Successful Mission

Beijing, April 26: The Chinese Navy’s hospital ship, named “Silk Road Ark,” returned to the naval port in Sanya, Hainan Province, on April 26 after successfully completing the “Harmonious Mission-2025.” This marks the 11th participation of the Chinese Navy in the “Harmonious Mission” series since 2010 and the first overseas journey for the “Silk Road Ark.”

The mission lasted 234 days, covering approximately 36,000 nautical miles. The hospital ship departed from Chaozhou in Guangdong Province on September 5, 2025. During its mission, the ship provided medical services in Nauru, Fiji, Tonga, Jamaica, Barbados, and Papua New Guinea, and facilitated medical transfers in Brazil and Chile.

Additionally, the hospital ship made technical stops in Nicaragua, Uruguay, and Fiji, navigating through the Magellan Strait. This is the first time a Chinese hospital ship has traversed the Magellan Strait, and it is only the second instance in 13 years that the Chinese Navy has operated in this port.

Throughout the mission, the medical team conducted over 26,300 medical treatments, performed more than 2,700 surgeries, and carried out over 17,000 auxiliary tests. A total of 136 individuals were hospitalized. Besides providing medical relief, the mission also fostered cultural exchanges and military cooperation.
