Chinas Special Envoy Engages with Kuwait and Qatar on Middle East Situation

Beijing, March 17: China’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Jarrah in Kuwait City.

Al-Jarrah emphasized that Kuwait does not take sides in conflicts and has always been committed to resolving disputes peacefully. He expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for China’s neutral stance and its efforts to promote peace. Kuwait is ready to enhance communication and coordination with China to jointly foster the swift restoration of peace and stability in the region.

Zhai Jun noted that the current situation in the region remains unstable, causing significant harm to Gulf countries like Kuwait, which China does not wish to see. He condemned the military actions taken by the United States and Israel against Iran without the approval of the United Nations Security Council, calling it a clear violation of international law. He stressed the importance of a ceasefire and urged the international community to call on the involved parties to immediately halt their actions to prevent further escalation.

Zhai Jun also held a phone conversation with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulafi.

Al-Khulafi stated that the ongoing crisis has severely impacted Qatar, affecting international energy supply and economic development, which is not in anyone’s interest. He appreciated China’s impartial stance and expressed Qatar’s readiness to work with China to bring all parties back to the negotiating table as soon as possible.

Zhai Jun affirmed that China fully understands Qatar’s current situation. Achieving a ceasefire and resolving issues through dialogue and negotiation is a consensus of the international community. The key is to implement this consensus effectively.
