Chinas Ministry of Commerce Responds to U.S. Investigation

Beijing, March 17: The spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce announced that on March 12, the United States initiated an investigation under Section 301 against China and 59 other economies. This action was based on the claim that “imports of products made with forced labor have not been banned.” This investigation follows an earlier probe launched by the U.S. on March 11 concerning “excess capacity.”

Currently, China and the U.S. are engaged in a new round of trade talks in Paris, France, where China has presented its stance.

China urges the U.S. to promptly rectify its mistakes, negotiate with China, adhere to the principles of mutual respect and equal consultation, and resolve issues through dialogue and consultation. The country will closely monitor the progress of the U.S. investigation and reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.

The spokesperson highlighted that the U.S. has previously imposed numerous trade restrictions on China under the pretext of “forced labor” by presenting fabricated facts. China has consistently expressed its serious position on this matter. As one of the founding members of the International Labour Organization, China has ratified 28 international labor agreements and has established a comprehensive system of labor laws and regulations to firmly prevent and address forced labor practices.
