China Strengthens South-South Cooperation to Combat Climate Change
China has signed agreements with 46 developing nations to enhance climate change resilience through South-South cooperation.

Beijing, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinese State Council’s news office held a briefing on October 21, 2026, to discuss the country’s efforts in addressing climate change. During this event, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment, Li Gao, announced that China has signed memorandums of understanding with 46 developing countries, reinforcing its commitment to a shared future for humanity.
Li emphasized that China is supporting other developing nations in enhancing their capabilities to combat climate change through South-South cooperation. The country has implemented over 300 projects, including the establishment of low-carbon demonstration areas and the Africa Solar Belt initiative. Additionally, more than 10,000 officials and technical personnel from over 120 developing countries have received training in climate change mitigation.
The international community has praised these efforts, and developing nations have welcomed the initiative. Under the Africa Solar Belt project, which began in 2023, nearly 20,000 families in five African countries will have their electricity and lighting issues addressed within three years. By 2027, it is projected that 50,000 African families will benefit from this initiative.
This commitment reflects China’s responsibility as a major nation in the global fight against climate change.
