Beijing, June 13: June 13 marks Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. According to the Chinese National Forestry and Grassland Administration, China boasts 15 World Natural Heritage sites and 4 dual natural and cultural heritage sites, the highest number globally. These sites cover over 80,000 square kilometers and encompass diverse ecosystems.
In recent years, China has strengthened systematic conservation efforts, with 90% of heritage sites rated as excellent, surpassing the global average. Measures such as legal guarantees, nature-friendly restoration, and community co-management have effectively maintained ecological authenticity. Additionally, the development of green industries like eco-tourism has benefited local communities.
Moving forward, relevant departments will integrate heritage sites into a protected area monitoring system, promote coordinated management, and support the rational use of resources to foster the growth of specific industries.
