China Condemns Attacks on Irans Supreme Leader Successor

Beijing, March 9: China has voiced strong opposition to any attempts targeting Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. This comes amid remarks from Israel and the United States, which have stated they will not tolerate Khamenei’s succession.

In response to Khamenei’s election, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, emphasized that this matter is entirely an internal issue for Iran. He stated during a press conference that Iran has made this decision in accordance with its constitution.

Previously, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also stressed the importance of respecting Iran’s sovereignty, asserting that no foreign nation should attempt to alter its political system.

China firmly opposes any targeting of Mojtaba Khamenei. The Israeli military has issued threats against him, claiming they will act against the successor of his late father, Ali Khamenei.

Guo Jiakun reiterated during the press conference, “China opposes interference in the internal affairs of other countries under any pretext, and Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity must be respected.”

On March 4, when Mojtaba’s name emerged, both the U.S. and Israel expressed objections. U.S. President Donald Trump even suggested that he should play a role in selecting the next leader, dismissing Mojtaba as a “lightweight candidate.”

Iranian officials have categorically rejected any notion of Trump’s involvement in the succession process. Israel has gone so far as to state that it will treat every successor to Khamenei in the same manner as his predecessor.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli military warned that it would not spare anyone who seeks to appoint a successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The IDF’s post stated, “After neutralizing the tyrant Khamenei, Iran’s terrorist regime is attempting to rebuild itself and choose a new leader.”

The military cautioned, “We warn those participating in the meeting to select a successor that we will not hesitate to target you as well.”
