S. Jaishankar Discusses India-EU Relations with Angelika Niebler

New Delhi, March 31: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with members of the European Parliament, led by Angelika Niebler, on Monday. During the meeting, they discussed a new chapter in India-EU relations and the growing consensus between both parties.

Minister Jaishankar expressed confidence that the European Parliament will become a strong pillar of cooperation in this new era.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, he stated, “It was a pleasure to engage with European Parliament members under the leadership of Angelika Niebler. We discussed the new chapter in India-EU relations and the increasing harmony between us. As the agenda for cooperation expands, mutual ease will also grow. I am confident that the European Parliament will prove to be a strong pillar in this new phase.”

Earlier that day, the first meeting of the India-European Parliament Parliamentary Friendship Group was held at the Parliament House. BJP MP Anurag Thakur expressed his hope for more such meetings as the group’s president, aiming to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and India-EU relations.

He mentioned on ‘X’, “The first meeting of the India-European Parliament Parliamentary Friendship Group took place on Monday at the Parliament House, attended by a delegation from the European Parliament, chaired by Angelika Niebler.”

Thakur added, “I am grateful for the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. I look forward to leading more such meetings to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and India-EU relations. We will work together for a robust partnership.”

Earlier this month, Jaishankar completed a successful visit to Brussels, where he engaged with EU leaders and foreign ministers. They discussed the “vast economic potential” under the recently signed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, technology, security, and connectivity.
