Washington, March 31: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that America hopes to achieve its military objectives against Iran not in months, but within weeks.
He noted that key targets, including Tehran’s air force, navy, and missile capabilities, have already been significantly damaged. However, Washington is simultaneously pursuing diplomatic efforts.
In a television interview, Rubio emphasized that the campaign is focused on reducing Iran’s military capacity and preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons. The U.S. aims to completely dismantle Iran’s defense industrial base to halt future production of missiles and drones.
Rubio reiterated that the objectives have always been clear: first, to destroy their air force; second, to eliminate their navy; third, to severely reduce their missile launch capabilities; and fourth, to destroy their factories.
He stated that these actions are necessary to ensure that Iran cannot secretly acquire nuclear weapons in the future.
Rubio’s comments followed President Donald Trump’s statements indicating that if diplomatic efforts fail, the U.S. could escalate attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Rubio emphasized that diplomacy remains their preferred approach. The President prioritizes diplomatic solutions, and there are ongoing exchanges of messages, including discussions mediated by third parties. Internal divisions within Iran’s leadership may also emerge.
He warned that no diplomatic success is guaranteed. While they are rigorously testing this possibility, they must also be prepared for the fact that these efforts could fail.
On maritime security, Rubio dismissed Iran’s threats to control the Strait of Hormuz.
