On May 20, officials from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce elaborated on these initial accomplishments.
Regarding tariffs, officials stated that this issue is crucial in China-U.S. economic relations. In the current economic and trade discussions, both parties engaged in thorough discussions and arrangements concerning bilateral tariffs. There is hope that the U.S. will honor its commitments.
In the future, any reasons provided for imposing or altering additional tariffs on China should not exceed the levels established during the trade and economic consultations held in Kuala Lumpur. Further negotiations may lead to the elimination of some unilateral tariffs on Chinese goods.
On the establishment of trade and investment councils between the two governments, officials noted that both delegations are maintaining close contact and will soon develop concrete plans. The establishment of these councils will be beneficial for both China and the U.S.
Officials also mentioned that China and the U.S. have reached a series of active agreements to enhance the resolution of non-tariff barriers related to certain agricultural products and market access issues. Both sides will strive to expedite the pending arrangements from the trade and economic consultations in Kuala Lumpur.
China aims to create a better environment for increasing mutually beneficial cooperation between companies and maintaining the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
According to officials, China plans to import 200 Boeing aircraft in line with the needs of air transport development, with the U.S. guaranteeing the supply of engines and spare parts.
