Lahore, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic bus accident occurred in Punjab, Pakistan, on Wednesday, claiming the lives of 10 people and injuring 44 others. Local media, citing police and rescue services, reported the incident.
According to Dawn, a leading emergency service in Pakistan, Rescue 1122, the passenger bus overturned after colliding with a divider on the Sindh Highway in the Rajanpur district’s Rozaan Tehsil. The accident took place around 5:45 AM in the Bangla Hidayat area. Witnesses indicated that the bus was speeding when it lost control and crashed.
The bus was en route from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan. Rescue 1122 reported that among the deceased were seven men, two women, and one child.
Of the injured, 38 received treatment at the Rajanpur District Headquarters Hospital. Four individuals with severe injuries were referred to Dera Ghazi Khan, while two others were sent to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
Rescue 1122 acted swiftly after receiving emergency calls, dispatching 10 ambulances and two rescue vehicles to the scene, involving 35 rescue workers in the operation.
Rajanpur’s Deputy Commissioner Imran Ranjha, along with the district police officer and assistant commissioner, arrived at the site to assess the situation and coordinate rescue efforts. Ranjha stated that a case would be filed against the bus driver, who fled the scene, and the bus owner.
Local media reports indicate that common causes of accidents on Pakistan’s highways include speeding, reckless driving, driver fatigue, and poor vehicle maintenance. Additionally, the state of the roads contributes significantly to such incidents.
This incident follows another tragic accident in Multan, where a speeding car collided with a divider, resulting in the deaths of five young men earlier this week.
Rescue 1122 highlighted that Punjab experiences approximately 1,352 road accidents daily, resulting in an average of 14 fatalities.
