Suspected IED Used in Bengaluru Construction Site Blast, Minister Urges Public to Avoid Rumors

A suspected IED explosion at a construction site in Bengaluru injured two workers. Minister Priyank Kharge urges caution against rumors.

Bengaluru, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) may have caused an explosion at a construction site in the Pulakeshinagar area of Bengaluru. Karnataka’s Home Minister Priyank Kharge addressed the incident on October 20, urging the public to refrain from spreading rumors until an official report is released.

The blast occurred around noon at a building under construction, injuring two workers, identified as Suraj and Alauddin. One of the injured reportedly suffered a severed finger.

During a press conference, Kharge stated that the investigation is ongoing. Police are exploring whether the explosion was due to an IED or a chemical reaction. “Preliminary investigations are underway, and we have been looking into this since last night. We should not pay attention to rumors until we receive the laboratory report,” he said.

Regarding materials recovered from the site, the minister confirmed that an explosion had occurred but did not provide further details. He mentioned that an assessment would follow once the investigation and reports are complete.

Currently, no specific charges have been filed under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have initiated the case based on their observations. Meanwhile, all materials seized from the explosion site have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. Initial inquiries suggest that a suspicious device may have been placed at the site two days prior to the explosion. However, the exact nature of the blast, the individual responsible for placing the device, and the motive remain unclear.

The Pulakeshinagar police have registered the case and are actively investigating. Officials are particularly cautious due to the timing of the explosion coinciding with the Vijayadashami festival. They await the FSL report, which is expected to clarify the causes of the explosion and the nature of the materials recovered. As the investigation progresses, more information is anticipated to emerge.
