Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Calls for Strict Regulation on Carbide Guns and Lamps Ahead of Festivals
CM Mohan Yadav emphasizes safety measures against carbide guns and illegal firecracker sales during upcoming festivals in Bhopal.

Bhopal, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has urged district collectors and superintendents of police to implement strict regulations regarding the use of carbide guns and lamps during the upcoming festivals and social events. He highlighted the dangers these locally made devices pose to public safety.
During a video conference from the state secretariat, Yadav emphasized the need to prevent the illegal sale of firecrackers during Diwali. He stressed that any disturbances during the celebrations would hold district collectors and police superintendents accountable. Preparations for maintaining law and order during the festivals should begin immediately, he advised, urging coordination among departments for effective emergency management.
Yadav’s remarks came during a review meeting where he sought feedback on the implementation of government schemes and development programs. He directed officials to enhance vigilance in sensitive areas to prevent any social or communal tensions. Increased monitoring was particularly necessary in crowded public spaces during Diwali to safeguard against potential threats.
The Chief Minister also instructed that strict adherence to licensing conditions for firecracker shops be ensured. Physical verification and inspection of vendors’ premises are essential to prevent illegal storage of explosives. Immediate legal action should be taken if violations are found, and the sale and storage of banned firecrackers must be effectively curtailed.
Yadav highlighted the risks associated with carbide guns and lamps, noting that the acetylene gas produced when calcium carbide comes into contact with water is highly flammable and can cause serious injuries. He reiterated the importance of having firefighting equipment and trained personnel readily available in sensitive areas during the festival.
In addition, he called for adequate lighting on major roads and in sensitive neighborhoods to enhance safety. Collectors and police superintendents were urged to personally review their districts’ preparations for the upcoming festivals to ensure a peaceful and safe environment.
The Chief Minister also addressed the need to combat food adulteration during the festive season. He ordered strict measures to prevent the sale of counterfeit or adulterated sweets and dairy products. Reports indicated that 17 licenses had already been suspended due to adulteration, alongside 42 FIRs filed in related cases.
Yadav emphasized the importance of conducting thorough inspections at food establishments and taking samples when necessary. He reassured that inspections should not cause undue inconvenience to vendors and that actions would be taken against establishments operating in unsanitary conditions.
The meeting included senior officials such as Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal and Director General of Police Kailash Makwana, who provided updates on their respective districts’ preparations.
