South Africa Aims for Glory in 2027 ICC World Cup, Says Klusener

Former all-rounder Lance Klusener emphasizes the importance of consistent scoring for South Africa in the upcoming World Cup.

New Delhi, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener believes that the team’s success in the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup will hinge on their ability to score consistently throughout the tournament. As co-hosts, South Africa aims to leverage the advantage of playing on home soil.

The tournament will see South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia join forces to host one of cricket’s premier events. This presents an opportunity not only for the region to showcase its capabilities but also for the South African team to chase another major global trophy.

Currently serving as the head coach for ‘Arabian Aces’ in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Klusener remarked that the support from local fans could provide a significant boost. However, he stressed that the fundamental principles of winning a World Cup remain unchanged. Teams must be able to score consistently and chase challenging targets, rather than relying solely on standout performances from individual players.

Klusener acknowledged that maintaining a steady flow of runs throughout the tournament will be a considerable challenge, not just for South Africa but for any team aspiring to win the title. He emphasized that the team capable of consistently putting runs on the board or chasing down big targets is likely to advance further in the competition.

“The pressure is always present in any major ICC tournament, whether you are playing at home or abroad,” he noted. Klusener added that the key lies in playing in stadiums filled with supportive fans, which is what a home World Cup offers.

While he recognized the weight of expectations from local supporters, Klusener urged the team to view this support as an opportunity rather than a burden. With international cricket set to be played in the stadiums of all three host nations, he believes this tournament could serve as a perfect platform for the South African team to achieve significant success.

“We are excited to be hosting this tournament again, and it’s time for South Africa to shine on the big stage of the ICC. We hope to fulfill the dreams of our players and the entire nation in their own backyard. We have demonstrated such success in rugby, and if we get a chance to replicate that in cricket, it would be a remarkable achievement,” Klusener concluded.
