Chhattisgarhs Chirayu Scheme: A Lifeline for Children in Need

Raipur, June 2: The ambitious Chirayu Scheme, initiated by the central and state governments, is proving to be a blessing for impoverished families in the forested areas of Chhattisgarh. Families that previously struggled to afford treatment for their children’s serious illnesses are now receiving free medical care.

In the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Chhattisgarh, the Chirayu team has successfully performed operations on over 40 children so far. The atmosphere among families has turned joyous as they express gratitude towards the government and the health department for their support.

Many families living in remote forest areas have faced years of distress due to their children’s congenital and severe health issues. Financial constraints made treatment impossible. The Chirayu Scheme has brought new hope to these families. Health department teams are reaching out to villages to identify children in need and provide them with free treatment at better medical facilities.

To date, more than 40 successful surgeries have been conducted in the district. Post-treatment, significant improvements in the children’s health have been observed. This has not only relieved families financially but has also given their children a new lease on life. Rural families are praising this initiative by the government.

The health department reports that through the Chirayu Scheme, children suffering from congenital heart disease, cleft lip, hearing impairments, and other serious conditions are being identified and treated. The goal is to connect as many children as possible to this scheme in the future.

Parents have shared their experiences, stating, “We were unable to afford treatment for our child. The Chirayu team helped us with the diagnosis and surgery. Today, our child is healthy, and we thank the government and health department for this.”

For underprivileged families, the Chirayu Scheme is indeed a lifeline. Children, once thought to have no hope for treatment, are now moving towards healthier lives. This is why families in the forested areas are continuously expressing their gratitude to the government and health department.

Parent Jagan Lal mentioned that an Anganwadi worker informed them about the Chirayu Scheme. The Chirayu team then referred them for treatment in Raipur. After hospitalization and two days of treatment, their child is now healthy. Previously, the child was not as active due to weight loss.

Another parent, Lakhan Lal, shared that his child frequently suffered from pneumonia. After a health check-up at the Anganwadi, they learned about the Chirayu Scheme and took their child to the district hospital for further examination. The tests confirmed a hole in the child’s heart, leading to treatment at Narayana Hospital in Raipur. Now, Lakhan’s child is healthy and thriving.

Lakhan expressed his gratitude to the government and thanked the doctors and nursing staff involved in his child’s treatment under the Chirayu Scheme.

Sunil Gaikwad, the program in-charge, explained that the Chirayu Scheme was launched in 2014 by the central government. In the Manpur block of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, surgeries for 11 children with congenital heart disease were conducted in 2024-25, and 8 more are planned for 2025-26 at NHM Raipur. The first child’s condition was critical, with frequent cold, cough, fever, and breathing difficulties. However, post-surgery, these children are now showing remarkable improvement.
