Raipur, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed his support for the recent decision by the central cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to raise the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) mandatory salary coverage limit from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. He described this move as commendable and a significant step towards strengthening the social security of millions of workers across the country.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sai highlighted the importance of this decision, stating it would empower the social security framework for countless labor families. The increase in the salary cap means that over 5.1 million additional employees will now be eligible for benefits under the EPF, pension schemes, and insurance coverage.
Sai emphasized that this visionary decision would bolster the foundation for a secure future for many working families in India. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for reinforcing the commitment to labor welfare and the vision of a developed India.
The cabinet’s approval on Wednesday marks a significant policy shift, as the EPFO salary limit had remained unchanged from ₹10,000 for a decade between 2004 and 2014. It was only raised to ₹15,000 in September 2014. Nearly 12 years later, the government has now decided to elevate it to ₹25,000.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the decision reflects the rising wage levels, income, and formal employment in the country over recent years. In many states, the minimum wage has approached the current limit, making it essential to align the EPFO framework with the existing economic conditions.
