Changying-8 Large Transport Drone Completes Its Maiden Flight

Beijing, March 31: China’s first large transport drone, the Changying-8, successfully completed its inaugural flight on Tuesday in Changzhou, Hainan Province.

The Changying-8, developed by the China North Industries Group, boasts a length of 17 meters and a wingspan of 25 meters. Its super-sized cargo hold, measuring 18 cubic meters, can accommodate various standard air containers and specialized cold chain storage units. Remarkably, the loading and unloading process can be completed within 15 minutes, significantly enhancing logistics capabilities.

With a takeoff weight of 7 tons and a payload capacity of 3.5 tons, the Changying-8 has a maximum travel range exceeding 3,000 kilometers. It is designed to adapt to different conditions, allowing for takeoff and landing on plateaus and at distances as short as 200 meters.

In the future, the Changying-8 is expected to be utilized in e-commerce logistics, supply of materials to remote plateau and island regions, emergency rescue operations, flood control, and disaster relief efforts.
