Chambal River Crosses Danger Mark in Dholpur, Authorities on High Alert

Dholpur, 23 August (Kiran News). Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment area of Kota Barrage in recent days, the water level in the Chambal River is rising rapidly once again. Large-scale water is being released from the barrage gates, directly affecting the Dholpur district. On Saturday, the river’s water level crossed the danger mark. At 6 PM on Saturday, the water level of the Chambal River was recorded at 136.60 meters, which is about 6 meters above the danger mark of 130.79 meters.

With the rise in the Chambal River’s water level, the district administration and relief agencies are on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation. After continuous rainfall in Kota and the entire Hadoti region, the barrage gates have been opened for water discharge. Additionally, rainfall in Bharatpur division’s Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts has also increased the inflow into the Chambal River. According to the Irrigation Department, the water level of the Chambal River was recorded at 130.70 meters on Saturday morning. As the day progressed, the water level kept increasing, reaching 132.50 meters at 9 AM and climbing to 136.60 meters by 6 PM—about 6 meters above the danger mark.

District Collector Issues Precautionary Appeal

District Collector Shrinidhi B T stated that the administration is keeping a close watch on the situation with full alertness. Disaster management, medical, water resources, electricity, police, and other essential services are on high alert. The administration has appealed to the public to stay away from rivers and drains and strictly avoid crossing any overflowing low-lying bridges. Personnel have been deployed in all flood-affected areas to ensure the safety of people and animals, as well as to supply essential goods. Angai Dam Gates Opened Amid Rising Water Levels

Due to rain in Karauli and nearby areas, continuous inflow is being recorded in the catchment area of Parvati Dam at Angai. By Saturday, the Angai Dam reached a water level of 223.20 meters, close to its full capacity of 223.41 meters. At 11 AM, four gates of the dam were opened, and 4,523 cusecs of water are being released. The police in the affected areas have also been placed on alert as water is being discharged into the Parvati River.
