Milap Zaveri Remembers Mentor Sanjay Gupta at Emotional Prayer Meet

Filmmaker Milap Zaveri pays tribute to his mentor Sanjay Gupta during an emotional prayer meet, reflecting on their close bond.

Mumbai, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : Filmmaker Milap Zaveri was visibly emotional at the prayer meet for his mentor and godfather, the late Sanjay Gupta, held in Mumbai. He shared how Gupta gave him his first significant opportunity at just 21 years old.

Zaveri posted a video from the prayer meet on his Instagram account, where actor Rohit Roy was seen hosting the event. The gathering included industry colleagues reminiscing about Gupta’s life, legacy, and the kindness he showed to others. Gupta’s wife, Anuradha, and their children were seated in the front row, trying to hold back tears.

During the prayer meet, Zaveri spoke about their special relationship, describing Gupta as a father figure. With tears in his eyes, he paid tribute to his mentor, recalling how Gupta entrusted him with writing the film “Kaante” at such a young age.

In his heartfelt note accompanying the video, Zaveri expressed, “He was someone who never bowed down to anyone and never stopped giving love.” He also thanked Gupta’s wife, saying, “Thank you, Anuradha Lekhi Gupta, for allowing me to pay my small tribute with these lines. For 25 years, you told me I wrote bland and clichéd lines. This was the last time, but he was a ‘king’ who will always remain ‘alive’ in our hearts.”

Sanjay Gupta, a renowned filmmaker, passed away at the age of 59 on October 30, 2026. According to initial police reports, he reportedly lost his balance in his kitchen, resulting in a severe head injury. Family members were asleep at the time, and the incident was discovered the following morning. He was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
