Seven Children Hospitalized After Consuming Toxic Seeds in Madhya Pradesh

Mandla, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Seven children aged between three and six were hospitalized in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, after consuming toxic seeds from a ratanjot plant. The incident occurred in Semikol village, where the children were playing when they ingested the seeds. They were rushed to the district hospital for treatment, and their condition is now reported to be stable.

Dr. Gaurav Kumar Markam, a medical officer at the district hospital, confirmed that the children were brought in at approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday. The families reported that the children had eaten the seeds while playing near a ratanjot tree. Medical staff began immediate treatment, ensuring that all necessary care was provided.

Sunita Yadav, one of the children’s mothers, recounted the events. Her two children, along with five others from the neighborhood, were playing near the Bajrangbali temple when they returned home complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.

“They came home saying their stomachs hurt and were continuously vomiting,” Sunita said. “We realized they must have eaten something from near the tree, so we quickly took them to the district hospital. The doctors started treatment, and they said the children are now doing better.”

Manoj Kumar, another parent, was working in the fields when he received the news about the children’s condition. He rushed home to find that the children were indeed vomiting, with pieces of seeds present in the vomit. “All seven children had been playing together and consumed the seeds,” he explained.

The community is now on alert, emphasizing the need for awareness regarding the dangers of toxic plants in the area.
