
Mumbai, April 1: On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Hanuman, a symbol of devotion, courage, and strength. The tales of Hanuman from the Ramayana have inspired many actors to portray this iconic character on screen, captivating audiences with their performances.
Among these actors is the late Dara Singh, a renowned wrestler and actor. He first played Hanuman in the 1976 film “Bajrangi,” and later became a household name for his role in the 1987 television series “Ramayan,” directed by Ramanand Sagar. Standing over six feet tall and weighing around 127 kilograms, Dara Singh embodied the strength of Hanuman.
Raj Premi took on the role of Hanuman in the 1997 show “Jai Hanuman,” produced by Sanjay Khan and aired on Doordarshan. Originally a cricketer, he transitioned to acting and also portrayed Shishupal in “Shri Krishna.”
Danish Akhtar Saifi, a former wrestler turned actor, played Hanuman in the 2015 series “Siya Ke Ram.” Despite being a Muslim, he is a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman, weighing in at 130 kilograms and consuming five liters of milk daily.
Devdutt Nage, a Marathi cinema actor, portrayed Hanuman in the 2023 pan-India film “Adipurush,” alongside Prabhas as Lord Rama and Kriti Sanon as Sita. His performance as the messenger of Lord Rama was well-received.
Nirbhay Wadhwa is another notable actor who has taken on the role of Hanuman. He began his career by playing Dushasana in “Mahabharat” and later starred in “Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman” and the upcoming show “Shrimad Ramayan” in 2024. He once remarked, “Hanuman ji chooses me repeatedly.”
Vindoo Dara Singh, following in his father’s footsteps, also portrayed Hanuman in “Jai Veer Hanuman” and “Vishnu Puran.”
Additionally, Ekagra Dwivedi won hearts at just six years old by playing young Hanuman in “Kahat Hanuman Jai Shri Ram.” Ishant Bhanushali also portrayed the character at the age of seven in “Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman.”
