Casio Unveils MRG-B2100D-2A Inspired by Japanese Pagoda with Titanium Build

Casio has introduced a new luxury addition to its high-end G-Shock MR-G lineup with the MRG-B2100D-2A. This timepiece takes inspiration from Japan’s rich heritage while maintaining the familiar design elements of the 2100 series.

Design Inspired by Historic Japanese Architecture

The watch draws its design cues from the Five-Storied Pagoda located on Mt. Haguro in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. This iconic pagoda, dating back to the 10th century, is recognised as a National Treasure since the 1960s. Casio highlights that the deep indigo dial colour, known traditionally as “hanada-iro,” reflects the pagoda shrouded in morning mist at dawn. This unique shade of blue shifts subtly with changes in light and viewing angle, adding a dynamic visual element to the dial.

Premium Materials and Traditional Craftsmanship

At the core, the MRG-B2100D-2A stays true to the classic MR-G styling with its signature octagonal case shape and a dial texture inspired by kigumi, a traditional Japanese wood-joining technique. This creates a layered, three-dimensional effect rather than a flat surface, emphasising craftsmanship.

The watch case and bezel are crafted from Ti64 titanium alloy, while the top bezel features Cobarion, a material known for its exceptional hardness and lustrous finish. The bracelet uses DAT55G titanium, and the entire watch is coated with titanium carbide to enhance scratch resistance. The case dimensions are 49.5 x 44.4 x 13.6mm, and the weight is 122 grams, balancing durability with comfort.

Advanced Features and Availability

The MRG-B2100D-2A is equipped with Casio’s advanced features such as Tough Solar charging, Multi-Band 6 radio-controlled timekeeping, Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone integration, and a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. It also offers a full auto calendar, day and date display, and an LED light for visibility in low light conditions.

The watch is expected to launch soon in Japan under the model number MRG-B2100D-2AJR, priced at approximately 572,000 yen (around $3,632). This positions it in the same premium segment as the existing black-dial version.
