Candidates Gear Up for UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam Amidst Tight Security

New Delhi, May 24: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is conducting the Civil Services Preliminary Examination under strict security measures across various examination centers nationwide. Candidates began arriving at the centers early Sunday morning, where they underwent thorough checks before entry. To ensure a smooth and fair examination process, stringent security protocols, CCTV surveillance, signal jammers, and extensive inspections were implemented. In Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, 6,652 candidates are taking the exam across 21 centers.

A large number of candidates gathered at the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Pushp Vihar, Delhi, for the UPSC preliminary exam. Murli Manohar Singh, a parent, shared, “We estimate that around 800,000 students are participating in the exam, with only about 15,000 expected to pass. This means approximately 98.5% of candidates will be rejected. Therefore, this exam is more about rejection than selection.”

Nitin, who traveled from Rohtak, Haryana, expressed his concerns, saying, “This is my first time taking the exam, so I’m a bit anxious. I feel like my preparation isn’t complete.”

Rajat, who is attempting the exam for the second time, mentioned, “I have prepared while working. We will only know how well I prepared after the exam.” Meanwhile, candidate Alok stated, “There is no fixed limit to preparation; we keep preparing continuously. This is my third attempt.”

In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a candidate at the examination center remarked, “This is the 2026 preliminary exam, and my preparations are good. I feel confident, and our exam is currently underway.” Another young candidate noted, “The arrangements at the center are well-organized. Candidates are undergoing biometric and retina scans before being allowed entry.”
