Businessman Arrested in Bengaluru for Threatening Customs Officer

Bengaluru, May 18: Bengaluru police have filed another FIR against businessman M. Kripalani. He was previously arrested for blackmailing and sexually harassing a female customs officer. The new case was registered at Hulsur police station following a complaint from customs officer D. Anthony.

Anthony is stationed as a customs superintendent in Mangaluru. According to the complaint, Kripalani was involved in smuggling to evade customs duties. In this case, Anthony imposed a fine of approximately ₹8.5 lakh on Kripalani.

Police reported that Kripalani allegedly attempted to retaliate against Anthony for this action. He is accused of threatening to kill Anthony and his family during a phone call to one of Anthony’s colleagues. The complaint states that Kripalani threatened that Anthony, his wife, and children would not be spared.

Following the complaint, Hulsur police registered a case against Kripalani under sections 308(4), 351(3), and 351(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Kripalani is already in custody for another case involving the blackmail and sexual harassment of a female customs officer.

Authorities revealed that the accused allegedly blackmailed the female officer, threatening to make her private photos and videos public if she did not comply with his demands. Unable to endure the harassment, the female officer contacted the police and filed a complaint. Initially, a rape case was registered against Kripalani at Yelahanka police station, which was later transferred to Indiranagar police station for further investigation.

The female officer has also made several other serious allegations against Kripalani. According to her complaint, Kripalani, involved in the electronics business, allegedly conducted multiple transactions to evade customs inspections.

The police investigation further revealed that Kripalani became acquainted with the female customs officer nearly nine years ago. He reportedly gained her trust by pretending to have a romantic relationship with her. He is also accused of luring her with promises of marriage to extract information about loopholes in customs procedures.

Using this information, Kripalani allegedly filed false complaints against some customs officers and extorted money from them. Police suspect that his actions may have harmed several customs officials, prompting them to appeal to anyone who may have been similarly victimized to come forward and file complaints.
