Bullet Train

The dream of riding INDIA’s first bullet train is inching closer to reality — and RAJASTHAN is set to become a major part of this high-speed revolution. As work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor advances rapidly, plans are underway to extend the project to Delhi, which will bring the country’s cutting-edge rail connectivity to several cities in Rajasthan.

Delhi-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor: Rajasthan to Play a Central Role

According to the latest updates, the proposed Delhi-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will cover a total length of approximately 878 km, out of which 657 km (about 75%) will pass through Rajasthan. The route will include prominent cities like Alwar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, and Dungarpur, impacting over 335 villages across these seven districts.

The corridor will include 11 stations, with seven located within Rajasthan. These proposed stations are:

  • Udaipur

  • Dungarpur (Kherwada)

  • Bhilwara

  • Chittorgarh

  • Ajmer

  • Kishangarh

  • Jaipur

  • Alwar (Behror)

This extensive coverage not only enhances intra-state connectivity but also ensures faster access to the national capital and western India’s financial hub.

High-Speed Performance: Travel at 320 Kmph

Once completed, the bullet train on this route is expected to operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/h, though it will typically cruise at 320 km/h. For context, the current Mumbai-Ahmedabad stretch — the first operational phase of India’s bullet train project — will cover 508 km in just 2 hours 7 minutes (with limited stops) and 2 hours 58 minutes (with all stops), making it one of the fastest train routes in Asia.

In Rajasthan, a dedicated trial track is already under development in Nava, Nagaur district, near Sambhar Lake, under the Jodhpur Railway Division. This facility will be crucial for testing high-speed rolling stock and infrastructure ahead of full-scale operations.

Strategic Impact on Rajasthan

With stations planned in major tourism and industrial hubs such as Jaipur, Udaipur, and Ajmer, the bullet train project promises a significant boost to tourism, real estate, local employment, and industrial growth. It will also reduce dependency on air and road travel while enhancing regional connectivity.

Conclusion

The expansion of India’s bullet train network to include Rajasthan is more than a transportation milestone — it’s a leap toward modern, efficient, and eco-friendly mobility. Once completed, the Delhi-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will mark a new chapter in the country’s infrastructure journey, with Rajasthan right at the heart of it.
