Budget 2026-27 Highlights Focus on Orange Economy and New Ayurveda Institutes

New Delhi: Presenting the Union Budget 2026-27 in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a strong focus on strengthening India’s Orange Economy. She highlighted the growing importance of the AYUSH sector and announced the establishment of three new All India Ayurveda Institutes.

The Orange Economy, which includes animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC), is one of the fastest-growing industries in India. The Finance Minister pointed out that by 2030, the sector will require nearly 2 million professionals, creating significant employment opportunities.

To support this growth, the government plans to set up AVGC-related labs in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across the country. Universities and colleges will also be encouraged to develop dedicated labs to provide structured education in the Orange Economy.

Ms. Sitharaman specifically mentioned support for the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies in Mumbai to help establish AVGC content creator labs nationwide. This initiative aims to train youth in digital creative skills, enhancing India’s position in the global creative industry.

Experts note that promoting creativity, culture, digital content, and innovation-based industries under the Orange Economy will accelerate economic growth and offer young talent a platform on the world stage.

Boost to AYUSH and Ayurveda Sector

The Finance Minister also made key announcements to strengthen the AYUSH sector. Three new All India Ayurveda Institutes will be established to meet rising global demand for Ayurvedic products, which has grown significantly following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Upgrades to AYUSH pharmacies and drug testing laboratories are planned, along with enhanced facilities at the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar. These measures aim to position India as a global leader in traditional medicine.

Budget 2026-27 clearly emphasizes youth empowerment, creative industries, and traditional medicine as crucial pillars for India’s future development.
