Guwahati, July 29: Floodwaters in Assam continue to impact thousands of residents, although there are signs of improvement in the situation. More than 332,000 people across seven districts are still grappling with the effects of the floods.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 332,639 individuals are affected across 622 villages in 21 revenue circles. The most impacted districts include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Kamrup (Metro). Approximately 45,341.98 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged, causing significant damage to the agricultural sector.
Officials reported that the Dhansiri (South) River in Numaligarh is flowing above the danger mark, but no other rivers have exceeded their highest flood levels.
The latest wave of flooding has claimed seven lives in Sivasagar district, bringing the total death toll in Assam this year to 75. ASDMA confirmed that there have been no reports of missing persons during the current flood phase.
The disaster management authority has established 115 relief camps and distribution centers in the affected districts, including 81 relief camps and 34 distribution centers. Currently, a total of 32,477 individuals are taking shelter in these camps, with the highest numbers located in Sivasagar, followed by Jorhat, Golaghat, and Charaideo.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the worst-hit areas, supported by medical teams, SDRF personnel, and local volunteers.
Authorities are distributing essential relief materials, including grains, drinking water, tarpaulins, children’s food, medicines, bleaching powder, and other necessities to affected families.
ASDMA stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with district administrations to ensure uninterrupted relief and rehabilitation measures in flood-affected areas.
