Guwahati, August 6: Hagrama Mohilari, the chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), visited the severely flood-affected Sivasagar district on Thursday, leading a relief team of 104 members. During the visit, essential relief supplies were distributed to families impacted by the flooding.
Mohilari, accompanied by MLA Arup Kumar Dey, toured several flood-hit areas. They assessed the situation and personally handed over relief materials to those who have been struggling with the effects of the floods for an extended period.
Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi welcomed the team upon their arrival and joined them during the relief distribution program.
The BTC team brought thousands of bedsheets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, and other essential supplies to assist families whose lives have been severely disrupted by the floods.
The relief operation focused on areas that have been inundated for several days, leaving many families homeless and reliant on external aid.
Local volunteers assisted in distributing the relief materials to ensure that help reached the most affected families.
Akhil Gogoi expressed gratitude towards the team, stating that the people of Sivasagar highly appreciate Mohilari’s decision to come from Kokrajhar to support flood victims during this crisis.
Gogoi remarked, “We are thankful to Hagrama Mohilari and the entire team for bringing bedsheets, mosquito nets, hygiene products, and other relief materials for the flood victims. Sivasagar is completely submerged, so this assistance will greatly benefit those affected.”
He emphasized that the BTC team’s choice to visit the impacted areas instead of merely sending supplies demonstrates a strong sense of solidarity and compassion for those grappling with the flood situation.
This visit comes at a time when large parts of Upper Assam, including Sivasagar district, are battling floods caused by heavy rainfall. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway in several affected districts, with government agencies, NGOs, and public representatives stepping up to assist displaced families.
