Brunt’s Century Powers MI to Victory Over RCB in WPL

Vadodara: Mumbai Indians (MI) maintained their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 15 runs at the BCA Stadium on Monday. The win was propelled by a stunning century from net bowler–batter Nat Sciver-Brunt.

RCB had earlier established themselves as the first team to reach the next stage by winning five consecutive matches, but they have lost their last two games in a row. Alongside MI, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants have each won three matches, while UP Warriors stand fifth with two wins out of six. These four teams remain in contention for the playoff spots.

After losing the toss and being sent to bat, MI posted a competitive total of 199 runs for 4 wickets in their allotted overs. Early in the innings, MI lost opener Sajiwan Sajna at 16 runs. From there, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Holly Matthews stabilized the innings with a 131-run partnership off 73 balls, taking the score to 147.

Matthews scored 56 runs off 39 balls, hitting nine boundaries before being dismissed. Brunt then joined captain Harmanpreet Kaur to add 42 runs for the third wicket, pushing the team to a formidable total.

Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten on 100 runs from 57 balls, including one six and sixteen fours, while Kaur contributed a quick 20 runs off 12 deliveries. From the RCB bowling attack, Lauren Bell took two wickets for 21 runs, while Nadine de Klerk and Shreyanka Patil claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 200 to win, RCB lost five wickets for 35 runs inside 5.1 overs, putting them under early pressure. However, Nadine de Klerk and Richa Ghosh steadied the innings with a 42-run partnership off 36 balls.

De Klerk made 28 runs from 20 balls, including four boundaries, before getting out. Ghosh then combined with Arundhati Reddy to add 52 runs for the seventh wicket in 34 balls.

At one stage, it seemed MI would secure a comfortable win, but Ghosh and Shreyanka Patil dramatically reduced the margin with a 55-run partnership in just 18 balls. Ghosh scored 90 runs off 50 balls, hitting six sixes and ten fours, while Patil contributed 12 runs off five balls.

From MI’s bowling side, Holly Matthews was the most successful with three wickets, supported by two wickets each from Shabnim Ismail and Amelia Kerr. Amanjot Kaur also took one wicket.

This thrilling contest keeps MI’s playoff hopes alive as the WPL season approaches the business end.
