FATORDHA (Goa), October 23 (Daily Kiran): Indian midfielder Brison Fernandes created history on Wednesday by becoming the first Indian player to score in the AFC Champions League Two. Despite his remarkable effort, FC Goa suffered a 1-2 defeat to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.

Al-Nassr took control of the match early, with Angelo Gabriel and Haroune scoring within the first 30 minutes to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Fernandes struck back in the 41st minute, capitalising on a clever move to pull one back for Goa and bring hope to the home fans.

FC Goa displayed strong determination in the second half but failed to find the equaliser. The team, which adopted a counter-attacking strategy, struggled to convert possession into clear chances. Apart from Fernandes, none of the other attackers could make a decisive impact.

Midfield battles and missed chances
Muhammad Nemil showed intent but was repeatedly outmuscled in midfield. Borja Herrera and Dejan Drazic found it difficult to penetrate Al-Nassr’s solid defensive line, leaving Goa’s attacking play largely ineffective.

Al-Nassr’s dominance and composure
Under coach Jorge Jesus, Al-Nassr came into the match with nine wins in their last ten games. After establishing a comfortable 2-0 lead, the Saudi side eased their pressure, allowing Goa to push forward. However, even as Goa fought hard, Al-Nassr managed the game well and secured all three points.

Foreign players underperform for Goa
FC Goa’s overseas recruits failed to rise to the occasion. Javier Siverio was substituted in the 24th minute due to injury. While Dejan Drazic assisted Fernandes’s goal, he couldn’t make a lasting impact. David Timor and Pol Moreno struggled in midfield and defence, and Borja Herrera, despite delivering a few quality corners, was inconsistent in defence.

Ronaldo’s absence disappoints fans
Fans were eager to see Cristiano Ronaldo in action, but he was rested. Reports suggest that the decision was made to avoid injury risks on the uneven pitch conditions.

Final Score:
FC Goa 1 – 2 Al-Nassr
