Brisbane Heat Signs England All-Rounder Tom Curran for BBL 16

Brisbane, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Brisbane Heat has officially signed England all-rounder Tom Curran for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL 16). The 31-year-old will add valuable fast bowling experience and batting depth to the team.

The franchise confirmed this week that Curran will be their first overseas player after the lifting of a contract freeze ten days ago. This marks Curran’s transition to his third BBL club after stints with the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars.

Throughout his BBL career, Curran has played 52 matches, taking 72 wickets at an impressive average of 20.61. He has also scored 501 runs in 36 innings, averaging 20.04.

Curran is a key player for England across all formats and has participated in 290 T20 matches, amassing 2,705 runs and taking 297 wickets at an economy rate of 8.83.

Brisbane Heat’s coach, James Hopes, has previously worked with Curran during his time with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed enthusiasm about signing such a talented and experienced player. “We are thrilled to have someone like Tom on board. He is intensely competitive, and based on my coaching experience with him in the IPL, I can say he uplifts the energy and spirit of those around him,” Hopes stated.

Hopes is also impressed by Curran’s recent form, having observed him play for Edinburgh in the Euro League, where he took 10 wickets in just four matches.

“I saw him play last week in the Euro League for Edinburgh, where he excelled with 10 wickets in four matches. I’m confident he will enjoy bowling at the Gabba. In terms of batting, he is quite similar to Michael Neser. He can anchor an innings, counter-attack, or help bring out the best performance from his teammates,” Hopes added.
